WHAT ARE FIBER OPTICS & WHAT CAN IT DO FOR ME?

Fiber optic (or “optical fiber”) refers to the medium and the technology associated with the transmission of information as light impulses along a glass or plastic wire or fiber. Fiber optic wire carries much more information than conventional copper wire and is far less subject to electromagnetic interference. Most telephone company long-distance lines are now fiber optic.
Transmission on fiber optic wire requires repeating at distance intervals. The glass fiber requires more protection within an outer cable than copper. Cascade Networks has provided the only fiber-optic high-speed internet service in Cowlitz County for more than six years.
Fiber Optic brings next-generation speed and quality right to your home or office. It’s your dedicated resource for speed and quality. Our fiber optic network enables high-speed internet, telephone and video options.

WHAT IS VOIP & WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF IT?

VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) is simply phone service delivered through your internet connection instead of from a traditional phone company. The Internet Protocol (IP) was originally designed for data networking and has since been adapted for the transmission of voice traffic over the IP-based network.

DOES IT SAVE ME MONEY?

Yes. Since VoIP can be bundled with your internet service, it saves you the money you were paying to have two separate services.  One low monthly payment includes your High-Speed Internet AND your telephone service. And because VoIP calls can be placed across the Internet., there’s no  extra charge for long-distance calls and no limit on how many minutes you can use.

HOW DO I GET VOIP?

Bring us a copy of your latest phone bill that shows your name, address, phone number, and account number with your current carrier. It takes about 10 business days to complete the migration process.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

The monthly service charge for residential VoIP service is $20.00 plus sales tax. There is an initial charge for the first two months (pre-paid) and a one-time installation fee of $49.95.

CAN I RECEIVE COLLECT CALLS ON YOUR SERVICE?

No.

DOES VOIP WORK DURING A POWER OUTAGE?

Not unless your Wireless Subscriber module, router/switch and telephone are connected to some sort of battery back-up or generator.

WILL IT WORK WITH MY HOME SECURITY SYSTEMS OR SATELLITE TV SERVICE?

We cannot guarantee that our VoIP service will be compatible with security systems or satellite television services.

ARE THERE ANY HIDDEN FEES OR TAXES?

No. You will always see your monthly service charge plus your local sales tax on your telephone bill.

All local and long-distance calls are unlimited within the United States and Canada are FREE.  However, international calls are not free and will be charged at a rate per minute.  Please click here for our International Calling chart PDF for current rates.

All 411 calls for information are charged $1.00 per call.

HOW WILL I GET MY PHONE BILL?

It will show up as an item on your monthly Cascade Networks statement.

CAN I USE MY EXISTING PHONES?

As long as your current phones support tone-dialing, they will work with your VoIP system. Our system does not support the use of rotary or “pulse dial” telephones.  (Most phones manufactured in the last 30 years are tone-dialing.)

CAN I USE MY EXISTING INTERNET SERVICE?

Yes. As long as you already have a Cascade Networks Internet connection, you can bundle the VoIP  service. VoIP uses a very small amount of your existing bandwidth when you’re on the phone.

IS THERE A CONTRACT REQUIREMENT?

No.

IS VOIP RELIABLE?

Yes. Our VoIP infrastructure has been established with redundant paths and multiple telephone servers across cities to ensure reliability for all telephone calls. Our servers are setup to ensure that you will get a quality phone connection using your existing internet connection.

CAN I TURN OFF MY COMPUTER?

Yes. Your computer and your phone will have different connections to a switch or router, depending on your setup, and do not affect each other.

CAN I KEEP MY PHONE NUMBER?

Yes. Number Transfer or Local Number Portability (LNP) allows you to keep your local telephone number or Internet telephone service phone number when switching service providers. (Some exceptions in Kalama)

WHAT IS IPTV?

IPTV (Internet Protocol television) is digital television delivered over an internet connection encoded as a series of IP packets. IPTV is bundled with your Cascade Networks High-Speed Internet access; telephone service (VoIP) can be added for the cost-saving Triple Play package.
In traditional television delivery, all programming is broadcast simultaneously. The available program signals flow downstream and the viewer selects which program he wants to watch by changing the channel.
IPTV, by contrast, sends only one program at a time. Content remains on the service provider’s network and only the program the customer selects is sent to the home. When a viewer changes the channel, a new stream is transmitted from the provider’s server directly to the viewer. Like cable TV, IPTV requires a set-top box.

What is Wireless?

The term “wireless” in a telecommunications network refers to a system that uses radio or light instead of wires to carry signals. A wireless network enables long or short range communications that would otherwise be impossible or impractical to implement with the use of wires.

Cascade Networks high-speed wireless internet network utilizes an established infrastructure of fiber-optics and interconnected access points for fast, reliable service. As the wireless network is expanded, broadband internet service is extended to remote or previously unserved areas.

DOES IT SAVE ME MONEY?

Yes. Since our wireless service can bundled your internet and phone service, it saves you the money you were paying to have two separate services.  One low monthly payment includes your High-Speed Internet AND your telephone service.
